Christmas Carole Returns to the Alhambra

When the new Alhambra Theater & Dining opens it’s production of Christmas Carole, it will mark the 20th time in the last 21 years for the Christmas classic at the nation’s longest running professional dinner theater.  And while the story is familiar and the venue quite traditional for Jacksonville theater-goers, a lot will have changed in this show: for the first time in more than 10 years the show will feature a completely new set and costumes, a new lead actor playing the part of Scrooge and a new chef in the kitchen.

“Sisters of the Sea” to Be Performed in November

The Beach Arts Cooperative is proud to announce upcoming The Orpheus Players' performance dates for the original play, “Sisters of the Sea”. Written by Sandra Riley and directed by Elizabeth D'Onofrio, “Sisters of the Sea” is a true story about the lives of famous female pirates Anne Bonny (Keri Hendry) and Mary Read (Lydia Frantz).

Buddy Walk & 5K Run This Saturday, November 5

The Down Syndrome Association of Jacksonville is excited to announce the 9th Annual Buddy Walk will take place Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Jacksonville Beach Pavilion.  The 1-mile walk is the largest fundraiser of the year for the DSAJ and the local chapter’s goal is to raise $150,000.  This is also the second year for the Matrix 5K run, which will precede the walk @ 8am.

Boorito is Back: Chipotle Hosts Halloween Fundraiser & Launches Short Film to Benefit Farm Aid

 

Chipotle Mexican Grill  will raise up to $1 million to benefit family farmers through its annual “Boorito” Halloween fundraiser. Customers visiting any Chipotle restaurant in the US, Canada and the UK on Monday, October 31st from 6 p.m. to close dressed in a costume inspired by the family farm will be treated to a burrito, order of tacos, salad, or burrito bowl for only $2, and Chipotle will donate proceeds (up to $1 million) to Farm Aid and the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.

Lukshen, rugelach, challah and gefilta. It may seem like a person needs a foreign language dictionary just to have a Jewish culinary experience. For example, hamentashen is neither a mixture of hamburger nor mashed potatoes as it might sound in English. Instead, it's a Jewish cookie similar to a shortbread that is shaped like a triangle and filled with delectable delights like jam or dates.
