The Florida Department of Transportation Office of Motor Carrier Compliance will take part in Roadcheck 2011, an international activity that will take place June 7-9 throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Oil prices continued to trade below $100 a barrel last week to settle Friday at $99.65 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange—$2.47 more than the previous week. Prices increased slightly after Europe reported positive economic news and the rising waters of the Mississippi River threatened U.S. oil refineries.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla - The Florida Highway Patrol says a man died when the car he was in was struck at a red light on Phillips Highway.

Susan Beihler was stopped at a red light in the 8000 block of Phillips Highway shortly after 1130 a.m. Friday morning when her Honda CRV was struck from behind by a Toyota pickup driven by 71-year-old Robert Charles, who failed to see that traffic was stopped. The Honda then crashed into a vehicle in front of it and that vehicle hit another.  Eight vehicles ended up being involved.

55-year-old Charles Biehler was taken to Shands Hospital where he died. He was wearing a seatbelt. Susan Biehler suffered serious injuries. Both are from Jacksonville Beach.

Charles sufffered minor injuries and was taken to Shands. Charles was not wearing a seatbelt. Charges are pending in this case.
