‘Click It or Ticket’ Campaign to Run May 21 to June 3

Police in Atlantic Beach are reminding citizens to make sure they buckle their seat belts or run the risk of getting a ticket.  Police will be out in force making sure your road trip is as safe as it can be.

This Click it or Ticket campaign and will run May 21, 2012 to June 3, 2012.  Although seat belt use on a national level is at an all time high of 85 percent, far too many people are still not buckling up, and far too many are paying the ultimate price. Seat belt use is the single most effective way to protect people and reduce fatalities in motor vehicle crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  Research has shown that when lap and shoulder belts are used properly, the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants is reduced by 45 percent, and the risk of moderate to serious injury is reduced by 50 percent. The law in the State of Florida requires that all drivers and front seat passengers, regardless of age, wear their seatbelt.  Rear seat passengers under the age of 18 are required by law to buckle up.  It is recommended that children under the age of 13 ride in the backseat of a vehicle away from airbags.
