JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Chefs from several beach restaurants tested their cooking skills at the First Annual Best of the Beaches Culinary Challenge, held at Casa Bella Village Thursday night.
A panel of judges, including First Coast News' own Joy Purdy and Top Chef and owner of Nipper's Beach Grille Kenny Gilbert, feasted on a variety of fares.
All contestants had to include an ingredient that's indigenous to the area, so some included Mayport shrimp and one even used Mayport flounder.
They were also judged on creativity, flavor, presentation and overall appeal.
In the end, Chef Adam Hyatt from Roy's Restaurant came out on top, winning bragging rights and a trophy to keep on display at the restaurant.
The cooking challenge benefits The Mission House shelter.
