Fletcher High Schooler Hit while Riding Scooter in Critical Condition

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A Fletcher High School student remains in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle this morning while riding a scooter.

The victim, Alan Conerly, 17, as airlifted to Shands with critical injuries, according to Sgt. Thomas Bingham of the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

Around 7:30 this morning, a 47-year-old female driver was turning in to a gas station parking lot in the 1600 block of Penman Drive, and hit Conerly who was on a scooter.

Conerly was on his way to Fletcher Senior High, Bingham said.

The junior is a stellar athlete and basketball player, and plays with travel teams statewide, according to his friends. He wears number 11. 

Bingham said the investigation is ongoing, and so far no charges have been filed against the woman who admitted to hitting Conerly.
