After recount, Latham declared winner in Jax Beach Mayor recount | News
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland said Charlie Latham has won the Jacksonville Beach mayor's race by 63 votes after a Tuesday recount.
Holland says the recount totalled 5,707 votes for Latham and 5,644 votes for the opposing candidate, Penny Christian.
Holland's office said there was initially a 49 vote difference between candidates Latham and Penny Christian.
The recount took place Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Election Center, located in the Gateway Mall at 5200-2 Norwood Avenue on the second floor.
Due to the small number of votes between the two candidates, law required an automatic recount.
Holland's office said after the recount, Latham had 5,707 votes, or 50.28%. Christian had 5,644 votes, or 49.72%.
Prior to the recount, Latham was reported to have 5,714 votes, which is 50.22% while Christian had 5,665 or 49.78%, a difference less than one-half of a percent.
Results of the second unofficial results will be sent to the state Division of Elections Thursday, November 15 by 3 p.m.
