Crews working to contain brush fire near Mayport Middle | News

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- Florida Forest Service and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews are responding to a brush fire near Mayport Middle School.

The fire is one acre in size and is near Mazama Road, according to Annaleasa Winter of the Florida Forest Service.

The crews are doing burnout work to contain the fire and one dozer is on scene plowing fire lines, Winter said.

No homes are threatened by the fire. Winter said the cause is likely due to a cooking or warming fire in a homeless camp.
