VILANO BEACH, Fla. -- A father was struck by lightning just before 5 p.m. Monday and taken to the hospital, and his son was also taken as a precaution.
The call came into St. Johns County Fire Rescue as a possible lightning strike on the beach, according to Jeremy Robshaw of SJFR.
Both patients were taken to Flagler Hospital. The father, identified as Falk Weltzein, had burns on his abdomen. His son Kai was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Kai could tell his dad was not well.
"I just looked over at my dad and he was on the ground and like foam was coming out of his mouth," he said.
Tanya Weltzein was not with her husband and son when the strike happened.
"Between class I checked my phone and there was a bunch of messages on there. I listened to the first one and it was the sheriff saying the my son and husband were en route to the hospital and that my husband got hit by lightening," she said.
Doctors kept Falk overnight as a precaution, but he's expected to make a full recovery.
