UNF Senior Appears on New Talent Reality Show

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- University of North Florida senior Jermaine Reynolds has many musical talents.

The music education major plays the euphonium in the UNF concert band, but what he calls his real talent landed him a chance to sing in front of a national audience. "I started singing when I was five in church, and I was choir director by the time I was 12," he said.

It's a long way from the church choir room, but Jermaine made a name for himself in the karaoke bars and clubs around Jacksonville.

"Yes, the Jacksonville karaoke bar scene is very dark," he said with a laugh.

A friend told him he should enter a karaoke contest at the Mayport Tavern.

Reynolds won the five-week contest and the prize was a trip to New York and a chance to be on ABC's latest show: "Karaoke Battle USA."

"I can't tell you exactly what happens, but I'll tell you I did really well and you'll be impressed," he said.

The show was taped earlier and will air at 9 p.m. Friday on ABC 25.
