Man arrested in connection with Jax Beach home invasion

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion and breaking into cars in Jacksonville Beach Thursday, police say.

According to Jacksonville Beach Police, Nathaniel Raheem Chapman is being charged with one count of home invasion, one count of grand theft of a loaded firearm, once count of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, seven counts of burglary to an automobile, two counts of grand theft, and four counts of petit theft.

Police say an unidentified man broke into a home and held two men at gunpoint, stealing one victim's wallet and cell phone. No injuries were reported, according to police.

A short time later, police detained a man fitting the description of the suspect. At the same time, the Police Department started receiving calls about several vehicle burglaries in the area.

Upon interviewing Chapman, police learned that he broke into seven unlocked cars, using no force to enter the vehicles. From one of the cars, he took a loaded gun.

He also took the keys to the home he robbed from an unlocked vehicle.

Chapman was transported to Duval County Detention Center.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and urge residents to lock their cars and leave nothing of value within their vehicles - including house keys and firearms.
