News

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- A child nearly drowned before being rescued from a pool at the Atlantic Beach Country Club Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The child was pulled out of the pool, located in the 1600 block of Selva Marina Drive, at some point, according to the Atlantic Beach Police Department.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded and took the child to a local hospital, police said.

The Florida Department of Children and Families recommends that children never swim without adult supervision, spokesperson John Harrell said. The agency also recommends minimizing poolside distractions and encourages parents to enroll their children in swimming lessons.
