Local Jacksonville Physician Travels to Ecuador to Train Local Doctors
Health

Dr. Jose Nieto of Jacksonville’s Borland-Groover Clinic, the third largest GI clinic in the U.S., recently conducted live endoscopic training for physicians in Ecuador. He was invited by Sociedad Ecuatoriana de Gastroenterologia to serve as keynote speaker and to perform live cases to teach the physicians advanced endoscopic techniques. Over 100 Ecuadorean doctors attended the event. Physicians with difficult GI cases enlisted Dr. Nieto’s help in treating those patients as part of the training.

“These physicians often don’t have access to training in the newest technology and techniques,” said Dr. Nieto.  “It’s a great service to perform for them and for their patients to bring our latest advancements to their country.”

The conference and training were held at the Hospital Clinica Kennedy in Ecuador. Next year, many of those same physicians from Ecuador will travel to Jacksonville to spend a week at the Borland-Groover Clinic and observe Dr. Nieto and receive additional training. In December, Dr. Nieto will travel to Colombia to conduct similar training.

Dr. Nieto’s advanced training and reputation as a skilled practitioner has attracted patients from as far away as Italy, Ireland and the United Kingdom. He joined the Borland-Groover Clinic from Orlando Florida, where he was on the clinical faculty staff at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute, and was essential in the development of the pancreatic disease and cancer program there.
