Jax Beach to become City of Lights for Christmas

JACKSONVILLE, BEACH, Fla. -- Jacksonville Beach will twinkle this Christmas.

The city is putting lights on City Hall, along the street and one man is recruiting people to decorate 20 lifeguard chairs that will be on display in Latham Plaza.

Jax Beach is doing something similar to what St. Augustine has done with its Nights of Lights.

Originally, Nights of Lights started 20 years ago to boost business during a slow season.

People in Jax Beach hopes the same thing will happen in their city.

"Those are good reasons to come down and have a glass of hot chocolate maybe spend time in one of our restaurants and shops. We feel if we do something to invite people down, they will come," Jax Beach resident Rob Nicholson said.

The lights go up in St. Augustine the weekend before Thanksgiving and in the Winter Lights Festival in Jax Beach starts the weekend after Thanksgiving.
