Son of Judge Arrested in Jacksonville Beach

The son of Chief Circuit Judge Donald Moran was arrested Tuesday in Jacksonville Beach on charges of resisting officers.

According to a police report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Richard Moran was allegedly observed by officers driving at a high rate of speed. The report states the vehicle was clocked at 63 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.

When deputies made contact with Moran, Moran allegedly smiled and asked how fast he was going. Moran then stated, “Come on now. Give me a break. My dad is in law enforcement,” according to the report.

Upon further investigation Moran revealed he had a gun in the car, but was unsure of the gun's location. Moran was ordered out of the vehicle and apparently became uncooperative when deputies attempted a pat down.

Moran allegedly expressed expletives to the deputies and resisted.

Moran was taken into custody and further explained, according to the report, “That [expletive] [expletive] touched me. I’m going to have his badge and job because my dad is a judge downtown. This is [expletive] ridiculous."

Moran was transported to the Duval County Jail for processing.

A black semi-automatic handgun was retrieved from Moran’s vehicle.
