Arlington Community Garden invites the garden curious to come out and help put in the fall food pantry garden. They will have lots of seedlings to put in and would appreciate your help in their support of the Arlington Community Services' Food Pantry.

Blistur, Cupid’s Alley and Kickin’ Lassie are among 10 bands now scheduled to perform during  Bands Against Breast Cancer’s Fourth-Annual  Boobsapalooza event from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Lynch’s Irish Pub, 514 N. First St. in Jacksonville Beach.

Great American Cookies announced today that it is hosting its second annual Reading is SWEET! National Book Drive to benefit local libraries and charities across the country. The company, which created the program in 2010 to celebrate October as National Cookie Month and National Book Month, collected more than 7,000 books during the program’s first year. 

Come Get Muddy and Help Boselli Foundation

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Don't mind get a little dirty?  Or maybe really muddy?

You can support the Boselli Foundation to help at-risk children and run in the 2011 Jax Mud Fest.   The 5K has obstacles every mile.  In fact, organizers boast it has more obstacles than any other Mud Run out there. 

Organizers call it a "muddy playground."

The last day to register is Saturday, October 1st at $40.  Then the price goes to $50.

Local Dr. Launches Essay Contest to Ask Students to Solve Public Education Problems

 

Scot Ackerman, M.D. of First Coast Oncology has announced his third annual essay contest for local high school students, “Students Who Care.”  The topic for this year’s contest is: “Plato said ‘Necessity is the mother of invention.’ In what innovative ways would you solve the challenges that the public education system faces today?”

The Florida Surfing Association is riding waves and changing lives more than ever this year. On Friday, September 30, the team will at the south side of the Jacksonville Pier for Surf Warriors. The FSA has organized this event in conjunction with the Wounded Warrior Project and will be teaching our veterans to surf and feel the ocean’s healing. The event will kick off at 10:00am this Friday morning.  For those who don’t know the Wounded Warrior Project is a non-profit organization headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida.  The Wounded Warrior Project is a way to raise awareness, provide unique programs, and help those who served get aid, training, education and assistance after returning from serving our country.

Dad-Daughter Date Night Planned for Military Fathers

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- It might just be the break from texting and video games you crave as a father.

Girls Inc. of Jacksonville is inviting active duty military Dads to bring their daugters to a special Dad-Daughter dinner/date night.  The non-profit group is offering a discount on tickets for the October 1st event.

There will be a dinner and dancing for the Dad-Daughter teams.
