Community First Funds 12-mile St. Johns River Swim Event

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – JumpingFish, a nonprofit group that advocates for First Coast waterways through athletics, won a $1,000 grant from Community First Credit Union’s Investing in You contest to fund itsUp the River 12-Mile Swim for the St. Johnsawareness initiative. The Up the River project is the first of six winning community improvement ideas to receive $1,000 each in this summer’s contest.

Community First Credit Union is “Investing in You” to Inspire Change on the First Coast

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Almost everyone has at least one good idea to make the First Coast a better place, if only they had the funds to make it happen. Starting tomorrow, and for the next 90 days, anyone, anywhere on the First Coast — including civic groups— has the opportunity to earn $1,000 towards a new or existing initiative.

Now in its second year, Community First’s Investing In You contest will award $1,000 every two weeks for 90 days to fund innovative ideas for improving communities throughout the First Coast. Idea entries can be submitted through the credit union’s Facebook site. Last year’s winners included a variety of projects ranging from educational technology for at-risk kids to swimming tubs for rescued tigers.

Brooks Rehabilitation Employees and Medical Teams International Helping Disabled in Haiti

Medical Teams International will send four teams of physical and occupational therapists from Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida to Haiti throughout the spring and summer of 2012, in order to provide rehabilitative care to those still suffering in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. The volunteer therapists will work with Medical Teams International’s Haiti Advantage program in Les Cayes, providing care in the outpatient prosthetics and orthotics clinic and well as the local hospital.

3rd Annual Spring-4-A-Cure Relay slated for March 24

3rd Annual Spring-4-A-Cure Relay slated for March 24

This year’s Spring 4-A-Cure 5K Walk/Run will be held on Saturday, March 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The race will begin and end at the St. Augustine Shores Riverview Club.

All proceeds from entry fees will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The race is being sponsored by the Mason Manatee Relay for Life team.

Awards will be given to the overall female and male winners. Recognition will also be given to the top three finishers in various age categories. Ample parking will be provided for all participants.

The course is scenic, safe, well marked, and has drink stations. You can preregister online by going to http://www.racesmith.com/races/Spring-4-A-Cure5K.html.

A fundraising campaign conducted by Sailormen, Inc. at Popeyes restaurants in Northeast Florida and across the Southeast will provide customers with valuable discounts while garnering support for the Muscular Dystrophy Association's worldwide research and services programs.
