The Paul Mitchell School Hosts Cleft Palate Clinic

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Paul Mitchell School at the St. Johns Town Center hosted the 2nd annual 4G Girls, Glam, Glitz & Gab event.

The purpose of the event was to nurture self-image and boost the confidence of 30 plus teens and pre-teen girls.

The girls met others like themselves who are going through similar issues. Hair and makeup artists were on hand to give the girls some beauty tips.

After the hair and make up session, professional photographers snapped photos of the girls.

The motivational workshop was made possible by the Jacksonville Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic. The community based clinic treats children with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other craniofacial disorders.

One out of 580 children are born with craniofacial disorders every year.

Does it Work? Home Edition: The Xoom

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- Tommy Pendergrass is a retired Jacksonville Sheriff's Office deputy, NASCAR fan and he is testing the Motorola Xoom in his home.

"I got to playing with it." said Pendergrass. "A man 90-year-old can operate this thing."

For two weeks Pendergrass used the Xoom technology to help make his life easier and he also got a flip camera to record his testing. "It will take you step by step anywhere you want to go," he said.

He is an avid gardener, and when he needed gardening tips, the Xoom put the information at his fingertips. The device even gave him a chance to peek in on his hometown 600 miles away. "I pulled Google Earth and went right down on the roof of my sisters house in Bristol, Viginia," said Pendergrass.

Pendergrass loves gadgets and thought the Xoom would be a big challenge, but he said the tablet technology was easy. "It was not difficult at all (once) I started touching things."

Brunet-García Decorated at Regional ADDY Awards

Brunet-García Advertising's creative team was honored at the 2011 American Advertising Federation’s 4th District ADDY Awards with two Best of Category awards, three Gold ADDYs and 15 Silver ADDYs at the event held recently in Miami.  The competition, which honors excellence in advertising, is the second step of a three-step journey, taking winning entries from the local level to the national level.

Brunet-García was the only local agency and one of only three agencies in the district to win two Best of Category awards, joining Disney’s Yellow Shoes Creative Group and SapientNitro. Brunet-García's Players by the Sea Poster Series won Best of Advertising for the Arts and Sciences and the agency’s Block x Block Illustrations won Best of Elements of Advertising.

Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contract Program Seminar

In February  2011, the U.S. Small Business Administration announced the WOSB Federal Contract Program which will provide greater access to federal contracting opportunities for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) and economically-disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs). The Program allows contracting officers, for the first time, to set aside specific contracts for certified WOSBs and EDWOSBs and will help federal agencies achieve the existing statutory goal of five percent of federal contracting dollars being awarded to WOSBs.
