2012 4th of July Fireworks Cancelled For Jax Beach

The new budget for Jacksonville Beach in 2012 DOES NOT include a 4th of July Firework Display for the community to enjoy on this Patriotic Holiday.

The firework show ultimately costs $25,000 in itself. Despite donations made to the city to help with costs, the issue at hand is the money that goes to public works and police who prepare for, and clean up after the firework display. The proclaimed additional costs for these services are an estimated $55,000, making the event cost an approximate $80,000.

Estimated 75,000-100,000 patriotic firework fanatics come out for this 4th of July firework display each year. The city expects visitors for that holiday weekend, but will not have the firework display to keep them around for the duration of the festivities, and forcing locals to go elsewhere to see fireworks on the 4th as it is a patriotic tradition. I imagine the economy in Jacksonville Beach will be feeling the impact of this budget cut come July 4th.
