Beaches Museum & History Center Honors Founder, April 30th

The Beaches Museum & History Center will honor its founder Jean Haden McCormick for her 90th Birthday Celebration on April 30, 2011. This birthday celebration will revive an old southern tradition called “A Silver Tea Party.” The Beaches Museum & History Center is owned and operated by the Beaches Area Historical Society, founded by Jean Haden McCormick in 1978. After years of tireless work and development the Beaches Museum & History Center opened its doors in March 2006.

UNF/Florida Writers Association Hosts Writers Conference

UNF/Florida Writers Association Hosts Writers Conference

The Division of Continuing Education and the Department of English at the University of North Florida, along with the Florida Writers Association, is sponsoring the 2011 UNF Writers Conference, Friday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 7, at the University Center, Building 43, on campus. The conference is for writers of fiction, non-fiction, poetry and screenplays.

The three-day conference kicks off on Friday, Aug. 5, with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. Conference orientation starts at 8:30 a.m., with 16 writing workshops on craft, genre and marketing beginning at 9 a.m. Also included Friday will be a workshop for the Writers Pitch Book, an opportunity for writers to pitch their books and scripts to agents, editors and Hollywood producers through written pitches after the conference.

Calling All Gleeks! Glee's Matthew Morrison in Jax July 14th

Gleeks everywhere are busy making summer plans as “Glee” star and Mercury Records artist Matthew Morrison announced today a major summer tour that will feature songs from his forthcoming album along with many of the Glee fan favorites. In tribute to the great glee clubs across the country, the tour (in conjunction with the VH1 Save The Music Foundation) will offer regional glee clubs the chance to compete for the ‘opening act’ performance slot.
