“Home” Acrylics and Old Photos
Born in St. Augustine, FL, Diana Patterson is the first of four daughters born to Robert "Jack" Mier and Pearl Pringle Mier. Earlier Mier families were Catholic and through the records of the church, the family's ancestry was traced to the 1400's to the southern tip of Spain. Moving from St. Augustine in the early 1800's, Diana's great grandparents came to Palm Valley, then a small settlement nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intra-Coastal Waterway north of St. Augustine. They built the first "Mier" house just a few hundred feet from where her grandparents later built the "big house" where Diana was brought after her birth.

Sustainable Native and Cultivated Gardens of Florida at the Beaches Museum & History Center

Sustainable Native and Cultivated Gardens of Florida at the Beaches Museum & History Center

The Beaches Museum & History Center will display a series of artistic representations of Florida environments from regional artists, painters and photographers. In conjunction with this showing, there is an exhibit on food preservation from the early nineteenth and into the twenty first century with commentary on the history of how natives and pioneers feed themselves.  Maintaining life in Northeast Florida requires the ability to produce sustainable food and renewable fresh water.  Continued habitation in Florida requires a better understanding of the unique ecological systems which have supported life for thousands of years and the present threats to their destruction.  Encouraging Florida’s biodiversity is critical to continued health in all Florida communities.
