"Lend Me a Tenor" Starring Jamie Farr Open Tomorrow

In June of 2010 it was M*A*S*H star Loretta Swit marking the return of a big name star to the Alhambra’s stage.  In July of this year that tradition continued with Barry Williams in The Odd Couple. And on Wednesday, September 21, M*A*S*H alumnae, Jamie Farr, who played Corporal (later Sergeant) Maxwell Klinger in television’s longest running comedy makes his Jacksonville debut on the Alhambra stage.

Papa's Radio

Papa's Radio

Some of my earliest memories I have of my Grandfather are of him in his wood shop in the garage of my grandparents house.  Papa was always making something and I just loved being down there, hanging out with him.  I remember the smells of sawdust and wood glue.  I remember he was always in his overalls and had at least two thick charcoal pencils in his chest pocket at all times.  There was always a saw of some sort going and loudly playing over the sound of the saw was the melodious tunes coming from his old radio.

Painter Finishes a Piece Each Day for Entire Year

Painter Finishes a Piece Each Day for Entire Year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- You may have heard the old cliche: "Idle hands are the devil's playground." If that's true, then Jacksonville artist Kelly Hennessey had nothing to worry about during the last year.

"I remember in the beginning thinking 'Why am I doing this'," she said, laughing.

She has been toiling in her dining room/studio since August 2010, when she got a sudden urge. "I wanted to do something that I wasn't comfortable with," she said, looking for a challenge.

So she decided she would finish one painting every day for a year; each painting done on a small tile. "It takes hours, some of these."

You can click here to see a full range of all her tiles on her blog.

Alhambra Theatre & Dining: “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” opens August 10

The last time Tod Booth took the stage at the nation’s longest running dinner theatre, George Bush was in office, Disney Land celebrated its 50th anniversary, Lance Armstrong won his 7th Tour de France, the Chicago White Sox won its first world series in 88 years.  Perhaps even more interestingly, that year, 2005, was the year Dirty Rotten Scoundrels opened on Broadway.  And beginning on August 10, Booth will make his return to the Alhambra stage in that very musical comedy, playing the lead role.  And if that weren’t enough, because of his return to the spotlight, Booth will turn over the director’s chair for the first time in nearly three decades – to none other than his wife, Alhambra veteran actor, Lisa Valdini.
