The Ritz Theatre and Museum Taking Applications Now for Young Black Intellectuals

The Ritz Theatre and Museum, through The Ritz Institute initiative, is taking applications now for its Young Black Intellectuals (YBI) program.

This exhibit features acrylics on display and for sale. Creativity has been a part of Janet Wilson’s life since childhood. She graduated with an art degree from the University of Iowa. Classes, workshops and other artists have contributed to developing her skills. Janet moved to Jacksonville 24 years ago after having lived in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta and North Carolina. Throughout her career she has been involved in illustrating, decorating and visual merchandising. Over the past twenty years she has concentrated on painting canvases and furniture. Her commissioned furniture and canvases are in many private collections. For additional information call or come see her work at the Beaches Museum & History Center. Jacksonville Symphony Guild 2011 Designer Showhouse and Designers Announced

The Jacksonville Symphony Guild has announced that the 17-acre Coxwell Estate, located at 9433 Coxwell Lane in Jacksonville, will be its 2011 Designer Showhouse. The Showhouse will feature a variety of fundraising events to benefit the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

MOSH LEGO® Competition Winners Announced

More than 100 contestants battled it out at the Museum of Science & History’s LEGO Competition held today.  The contestants, which included kindergartners through 9th graders, worked in teams or as individuals to construct original LEGO designs.  The top prize winners included a farmhouse, a moveable bridge and a spaceship.

Hebrew Reading Crash Course

Chabad @ the Beaches is offering a Hebrew Reading Crash Course to all members of the Jewish community.  The course is designed to teach those with no basic knowledge of the Hebrew language how to read Hebrew in five easy lessons. Chabad @ the Beaches is offering the course in an effort to assist those in the community with a desire to learn to read Hebrew and learn to follow along in the Siddur/Prayer book.

UNF Women’s Center Presents V-Day Benefit Performance

The University of North Florida Women’s Center and V-Day UNF 2011 will present a benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues” on Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. in the Andrew A. Robinson Jr. Theater, Building 14A, next to the UNF Fine Arts Center.

Proceeds benefit the UNF Women’s Center and the V-Day 2011 Spotlight Project. Tickets cost $15 for the general public and $8 for students with any valid student identification. Tickets may be purchased through the UNF Ticket Box Office at (904) 620-2878.
