Sustainable Native and Cultivated Gardens of Florida at the Beaches Museum & History Center

The Beaches Museum & History Center will display a series of artistic representations of Florida environments from regional artists, painters and photographers. In conjunction with this showing, there is an exhibit on food preservation from the early nineteenth and into the twenty first century with commentary on the history of how natives and pioneers feed themselves.  Maintaining life in Northeast Florida requires the ability to produce sustainable food and renewable fresh water.  Continued habitation in Florida requires a better understanding of the unique ecological systems which have supported life for thousands of years and the present threats to their destruction.  Encouraging Florida’s biodiversity is critical to continued health in all Florida communities.

This show will run throughout the month of June.  Lee McDonald, Florida Master Gardener, and environmentalist will curate the show. The show demonstrates the unique and natural beauty of Florida, as seen through the eyes of award winning Florida artists and informs visitors and natives alike about the fragile environments that sustain life in this region and what is needed to preserve them.
