Body, passport found 22 miles off coast

ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. -- The U.S. Coast Guard just located a man's body near a large debris field spotted in the ocean tonight, about 22 miles east of the entrance to the St. Johns River.

The debris was reported around 6 p.m. Sunday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, which included flares, two large pieces of a vessel and ten life jackets.

The Coast Guard is responding to the scene as if other people are in distress, but it is unknown at this time if that is the case, according to a release from the USCG.

A 45-foot Response Boat from Station Mayport in Atlantic Beach and a Hercules plane from Air Station Clearwater are searching the area.

JEA customers overbilled in wake of cyber attack

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- During JEA's 'Denial of Service' attack earlier this week, the utility said customers' information was never compromised. But in the wake of the cyber attack, some JEA customer discovered a problem with billing.

Ellen Willett is one of them. She usually pays her JEA bill by phone.

"I've never had a problem," she said.

During the cyber attack on the utility's network, she couldn't use the JEA's phone pay system. Willett said she followed JEA's directions and paid her bill at a Winn-Dixie Store.

"I went to Winn Dixie on Tuesday to make a payment," said Willett. "They were directing everybody to go there."

Neighbors complain of speeding at the beach

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Brooke Wise sometimes feels like cars go by her house so fast, she can't back out of her driveway.

"I don't really think anyone really goes the speed limit on this street," she told First Coast News reporter Jacob Long.

Wise lives on 13th Avenue South in Jacksonville Beach between 3rd and 9th Streets.

The speed limit in the neighborhood is 25 miles per hour, but our radar gun found people going much faster.

Some drivers were going nearly 40 as Long interviewed Wise.

"Basically, if they've got a green light on the intersection, it's 35 or higher," she said.

One speeder Long confronted said, "I didn't mean to (speed). I'm just trying to get to work."

That person was clocked at 38.

Another driver, who drove away from Long, was also clocked at 38, but didn't want to talk on camera.

Long caught another speeder going 38 in the neighborhood, but that person also didn't want to talk.

Runners donate a record amount of clothes during 26.2 with Donna

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Humane Society Thrift Store got a huge donation Tuesday thanks to racers who participated in the 26.2 with Donna this past weekend.

It was a chilly start to the marathon Sunday and many runners started out in layers. As they warmed up, they peeled off some of those layers along the route. The 26.2 with Donna Foundation collected the left behind clothes and donated a truckload full to the Humane Society Thrift Store on Beach Boulevard.

But for one runner, the donation came as a big surprise. He draped his jacket over a fence near the start line and didn't know it would be gone when he came back to get it.

JEA.com crippled by cyber attack

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Unable to pay their bills online Tuesday morning, JEA customers were standing in line at its payment centers.

"I tried two days ago and was not successful in getting anything done online," said Lacrecia Anderson.

Anderson normally pays her bill online and was in the dark as to why the website was not working.

"My payment was due I was kind of scared that my lights were going to cut off," she said.

To avoid an interruption in her service, she made it to the payment center as quickly as possible, and she was not alone.

"Coming into the branch and standing in line is an inconvenience," said Anderson, "when I am used to doing it online or paying it over the phone."

On Sunday, JEA's cyber network was hit by a 'denial of service' attack.

"Soon as it started we were notified and we've been working on it since," said JEA's Gerri Boyce.
