Down Syndrome Student Crowned Homecoming Queen at Fletcher High

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fletcher High School students made Wednesday night's homecoming game a dream come true for a special young lady running for queen.

Cara Stieglitz, a down syndrome student at the school, won the queen's title at Fletcher's homecoming game.  Jesse Hughes will wear the king's crown.

Students banded together to nominate and eventually vote for Stieglitz, who thought the world of being nominated.  "It would be so much fun to be homecoming queen," Stieglitz said.

Teachers at Fletcher High said Cara has mainstreamed into several elective classes, and also serves as an executive intern to one of the school's assistant principals.

"She's a very serious student. She works very hard. She always completes her work. And sometimes it will take her a bit longer to finish, but she won't stop, she'll take it home and finish it. Super hardworking girl," said Fletcher High teacher, Amy Minton.

First Lawsuit Filed in Mayo Clinic Hepatitis Case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The first litigation related to a fatality in the Mayo Clinic hepatitis case has been filed.

The widow of Dennis Wolford, a 62-year-old Stuart resident, is filing a medical malpractice suit against the hospital. The hospital was sent the intent sue letter on Tuesday.

Wolford died in September 2008, after two liver transplants at the Mayo Clinic, in 2006 and February 2008.

According to a release from the law firm representing Wolford tested negative for hepatitis C prior to the transplants.

The release also states that Wolford was supposed to receive Fentanyl to help him with the pain associated with his surgeries.

"We know he got it from  the Mayo Clinic, we just did not know how.  They (the hospital) could not figure out how," said Peggy Wolford during an interview in Jacksonville Beach with her attorney at her side.
